Camp Fimfo Review
Visiting Camp FIMFO in the Texas hill country
We recently spent four days camping Glamping at Camp FIMFO at their Texas hill country location in New Braunfels, and we are thrilled to share our experience with you!
Even from your first visit to their website (visit HERE), you’ll notice the nostalgic summer camp vibe. This theme plays throughout your experience including fun, organized games and plenty of independent activities.
Here’s what you need to know!
Lodging: Very well-appointed cabins or RV sites with full hookups. Tent camping available soon! If you reference the map on their website, you can appreciate that there are hundreds of sites. This place is huge!
Activities: There is plenty to keep the whole family entertained for days! ;)
Resort-style heated Pool, water park with slides, and a swim up bar
Mini golf, basketball, pickle ball, tennis
Playground
Yard games, gem mining
Dining: While there are a few options on site, I wouldn’t rely entirely on them for your whole stay.
Filling station (pizza, burgers, ice cream…)
Squirrely’s tavern (local brews, cocktails, their take on bar food)
While you’re sure to feel secluded, rest assured that New Braunfels and all its amenities (read: restaurants, grocery stores) are only about 20
minutes down the road.
Location:
On the Guadalupe river-1000 feet of river frontage! You can fish, wade, and even float on your inner tube!
Whitewater amphitheater is practically in the same parking lot and offers a variety of live music. You should check out their website HERE to see what’s going on during your stay.
Points of reference:
New braunfels, about 20 minutes away
Austin and San Antonio are both about an hour away, just in different directions
Less than 30 minutes away are the San Marcos Premium Outlets
Don’t sleep on Gruene Hall, Dripping Springs, Fredericksburg and the rest of the beautiful Texas hill country while you’re here. From scenic
motorcycle or Jeep rides, to local wineries or unique hiking, you’re sure to find something memorable for each personality in your group.
Natural bridge caverns are about 35 minutes away, and might be a cool escape on those hot Texas summer days!
TIPS
Golfcart rentals. Yes, it’s costly, let’s get that out of the way. They don’t allow outside golfcart use and particularly with a family, frequent car rides to the different attractions by not be feasible. Bikes or scooters would be a much more *cost-effective* option if you have them. Even with just the two of us, it was cumbersome to have to get in the truck any time we wanted to go to an activity, and we would consider spending on the golfcart next time.
There are Bath houses and a laundry room! Who else despises returning from vacation to realize that mountain of laundry that’s going to take all week to run through? (raises hand…)
While the resort is Pet friendly, always verify any restrictions or requirements prior to your arrival.
Sister property coming soon in Waco!
Final thoughts
They nailed the “summer camp” vibe! (Note: they are open year round; summer is just peak season)
There really is plenty to do. Or, you can do nothing at all, if that’s what summer is to you.
I’d like to see some more on-site food options.
Next time, we will either take bikes or rent the golf cart to get around easier.
You could easily bring a large group, family-reunion style. That actually sounds like a lot of fun!
Make sure to plan to stay for a few days. A 2-day weekend is really not enough to soak it all in.
Everything seemed well-kept and organized, and of course the staff was always friendly and helpful. Five stars, y’all!
